Let me start off by saying that I am no seasoned veteran when it comes to rocking a bold, colorful eye. In fact, the thought at first made me cringe, literally. Flashbacks to seven years old and creating “glam looks” with caked on blue shadow and over-lined fuchsia lips ensued. So, when Tamar (owner and professional MUA of Tamar C Makeup*) suggested recreating a similar look to Kim Kardashian’s blue shadow from her new KKW Beauty palette, I shuttered for a minute. But, knowing Tamar, I knew she wouldn’t create the drag queen look that I used to perfect on myself as a kid. So, this bold, beautiful, blue shadowed look was born. And I would be lying if I said it wasn’t one of my favorite looks ever.
Unless you’re a super daring, wherever-the-wind-takes-me, kind of girl, colorfully bold eyes are not your typical go-to. Can I get an amen? At least that’s how I feel, and as much as I’d like to think I’m adventurous, I’m not when it comes to my makeup. That’s the honest truth. So, this looks was definitely a big step and a turning point for me. I want you to have that same moment as I did. A moment where you liberate yourself from feeling trapped in who you “think” you are. You can wear anything; you can be anything; you can do whatever it is that maybe you’ve not felt the confidence or self empowerment to do before. Sure, you might say, “Take it down a notch, Oprah!,” and I get it-it’s a beauty look, but it’s also not. I find reason and purpose in everything-the good and bad, the small and the large. Realizing I could not only pull off, but rock a BLUE eyeshadow look made me confident and beautiful in a way I didn’t think I could. I realized that I’m more capable than I give myself credit for. It’s all about your perception, and in this case, a few professional makeup tips that can make all the difference! Here are a couple tips of Tamar’s tips for you to try when creating your own bold and colorful looks:
1. Use foundation: when playing with color, make sure you’re working with a smooth, even-toned canvas. It’ll seriously take you from clown to WOW.
2. Keep it bronzy: You know that Mariah feeling you get after getting that tan, bronzy skin, like no one can touch me? Yeah, that’s the same when you play with color. Keep a seductive, soft glow and whatever eyeshadow you choose will maintain that romantic, sexy vibe.
3. Brown the crease: Mixing in a little brown crease will you give you that romantic, smokey eye effect and more dimension to your look. You can still have color, but you soften it a bit with a touch of brown.
4. Say yes to eyeliner: Yet another way to enhance the romantic essence and can also help to feel less “clowny.” Especially when you’re trying a new look, utilize some of your typical arsenal to mix and match and find the right balance of bold and sophisticated.
Whether it’s makeup, landing a new job, accomplishing a new goal, or whatever it is-celebrate those victories, big and small. You never know where that little victory might take you. Thanks for hanging out with me in my closet and listening to my philosophical soapbox. You guys are dolls. I can’t wait to see you in here next week as we talk more about life and style and all the drama in-between!
XO,
Sarah
